All Amnesia games have fall damage but there are subtle differences between games. There are ways to reduce the damage taken from falls.
The Dark Descent[]
Vertical Boosting
By boosting you can slow down your momentum, thus reducing or negating fall damage. A good example of this is the goo descend in Nave (Redux).
Horizontal Boosting
If you land at just the right place on a sloped geometry, you can negate damage from a fall partially or altogether.
Short Jump
If Daniel jumps at the very end of a floor he won't perform a regular jump. Instead, he'll do a very short jump. This is useful in several places where you either wish to make it across a big gap, or skip a flashback trigger, without taking too much fall damage.
Fall Damage Glitch
If using the debug tool quicksave and quickload you can disable fall damage, accidentally giving you a false sense of security when practicing tricky jumps. It happens when loading a quicksave without first going to the main menu (F4, then F5). Quickloading manual saves or autosaves will not disable fall damage. To efficiently practice without disabling fall damage, save and exit to the main menu and load the save. Now you may use F5 as much as you want.

Inventory Fall Reset
By opening and closing the inventory, Tasi's downward vertical velocity resets to zero. This can be used to avoid fall damage completely if timed right.
