Beginners are welcome! Guides exist for people to learn the routes for their preferred category, to set up the game and recording, and to set up LiveSplit to automatically remove game loads, and even automatically start, split, and stop the timer.

Amnesia: The Dark Descent

Amnesia: The Dark Descent is a first-person survival horror game developed by Frictional Games for Microsoft Windows, Linux, Apple Mac OS X, Sony PlayStation 4, Microsoft Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. It was first released in 2010 for Linux, Mac OS X and Windows. It was later released on PlayStation 4 in 2016, Xbox One in 2018 and Switch in 2019 as part of The Amnesia Collection.

The Microsoft Windows version is by far the best version of the game to use for speedruns as it has the most patches available for running, practice and research, supports a load removal tool and is used by the vast majority of the community. Additionally, the Steam version is the most versatile among the PC releases.

Frictional Games were kind enough to provide the speedrunning community with a speedrun branch (Steam version), which is the optimal patch for speedruns.

Amnesia: Rebirth is a first-person survival horror game developed by Frictional Games for Microsoft Windows, Linux, Apple Mac OS X and Sony PlayStation 4. It was first released in 2020 for Linux, Mac OS X, Windows and PlayStation 4. The release for Xbox One is TBD.
